Can I use my old kit?

The first thing I thought about when I saw the price of dedicated HD systems was reusing some old equipment. I have a laptop that I use on a daily basis. It's several years old and when I tried downloading some HD sample videos they didn't play but it might still come in useful for something. I also have some older desktop PCs but I don't want them in my living room as they are too noisy. I have a DVD player that plays DivX movies and has a USB port. And, of course, I have my HD TV - a Samsung that I bought last December.

It seems like there should be some way of using all this to get HD porn onto my TV. I just need to find it. I will begin by asking the question ‘what is HD?'
